English: Painting of Stephen Van Rensselaer III (November 1, 1764 — January 26, 1839), founder of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, former Lieutenant Governor of New York, and member of the United States House of Representatives. He is documented as having been the tenth richest American in history with a net worth of $10 million (about $88 billion in 2007 dollars) at the time of his death.
