English: State seal of Burma (1948–1974), showing a chinthe at the top (replaced in later versions by a star), two chinthes facing away from each other as supporters, and a map of Burma in a circle surrounded by Verse 194 of the Buddhavagga in the Dhammapada in Pali:
မြန်မာဘာသာ: သမဂ္ဂါနံ တပေါ သုခေါ
(samagganam tapo sukho), which translates as "happiness through harmony" or "well-being through unity". The banner contains the Burmese text
မြန်မာဘာသာ: ပြည်ထောင်စုမြန်မာနိုင်ငံတော်
, which translates as "Union of Burma".
