Summary

Description The Starrett-Lehigh Building at 601-625 West 26th Street between Eleventh and Twelfth Avenues in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was a full-block freight terminal and warehouse built in 1930-31 as a joint venture of the Starrett real-estate interests and the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and was designed by the firm of Cory & Cory. The modernity of its design made it one of the few American building cited in the 1932 "International Style" exhibit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Like the Terminal Warehouse Central Stores Building on the next block uptown, trains could be driven directly into the ground floor of the building. It is part of the West Chelsea Historic District and was named a NYC landmark in 1986. (Source: Guide to NYC Landmarks (4th ed.)) This view is from the Hudson River Park at 26th Street
