Summary

Description
English: Stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) stumpery in the Dukes Wood, Wellensly Woodlands, close to the Basingstoke Canal, west of Aldershot. The stumpery is a pyramid of half-buried vertical logs built around a tree stump to provide an enviroment of rotting wood - the ideal habitat for a stag beetle nest. This stumpery is one of many that have been built in the south of England as part of a nature conservation project to try to check the decline of this insect.
