Summary

Description Detail of the altar and reredos, sculpted by Robert Beall (d.1892) to the design of architect Tomas Ralph Spence (1845–1918). It is in St George's Church, Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. The altar, reredos and chancel steps are constructed as one piece, in various types of figured and coloured marble (mainly Pavonazzo marble). The reredos includes three mosaics designed by C. Mitchell, son of the church's benefactor, featuring Archangel Gabriel, Jesus, and Archangel Michael. Showing the altar-reredos in the context of the chancel, which was decorated in mosaic, tiles and painting in 1888.
