Purpose of use

To illustrate the marketing of the series, cite the presentation style, and profess to the character played by Sir Alec Guinness (RIP).

Replaceable?

Irreplaceable. It's a copyrighted show with copyrighted art; no free image is possible that is also correct for what the cover actually looks like. No art has been released into the public domain to my knowledge. No other graphic does justice.

Other information

The use of the film poster illustration will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original. In particular, copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the film. In fact, it inadvertently increases value of the film by allowing for greater awareness and interest due to the impressive characterization of the novel's main character, George Smiley, by Sir Alec Guinness.
