Summary

Description
English: Sandro Botticelli, Five Sibyls in Niches, detail of a Sibyl, either Cimmmerian or Cumaean; the museum label says Cimmmerian, but the letters above her head read "SIB CUMEA". Confusion may have arisen here, and elsewhere, as these two sibyl may have been doublets. Oil on poplar board, executed by Botticelli ca. 1475-1470, collection of Christ Church, Oxford. Filippino Lippi (1457-1504) painted a pendant work of five other sibyls in niches, c. 1472; Botticelli probably created the overall design of both paintings.
