Description
English: Populist cartoon in Ghimpele, the Romanian liberal magazine. It celebrates the creation of Garda Orăşenească, the democratic militia, and criticizes those who dodged the mandatory service. The well-dressed bourgeois on the right rejects the militiaman's request to enter duty: pentru mine legea este voinţa d. ministru, şi d-luĭ mĕ scutesce, căcĭ sumŭ registratore ("to me the minister's will is the actual law, and he exempted me [from the draft], given that I am a state functionary").
