Summary

Description
English: Pictured is a Royal Marine of P Squadron, 43 Commando using a small drone to bring an edge to training while taking part in an assault in an urban area as part of the final phase of their training on the Rock of Gibraltar.

The commandos used small remotely piloted aerial systems – in other words, drones – to aid decisions made

The drones fed real-time footage back to their Android Tactical Assault Kit, providing useful information for navigation and situational awareness.

This gives the commandos better foresight and a decisive edge when it comes to reconnaissance and patrolling.

Over 80 of these highly trained Commandos spent 2 weeks in early November 2020 on Exercise Serpent Rock honing their skills with a night-time vertical assault and dawn attack followed by an abseil extraction back down ‘The Rock’.

This annual exercise sees the Royal Marines making best use of Gibraltar’s unique terrain, undertaking amphibious and cliff assaults, close quarter battle in urban environments and within the network of tunnels the Rock is famous for, as well as patrolling its streets, thoroughfares and the narrow alleyways and passages that pepper this British overseas territory.
