Roque-de-castro, Hydrobates castro (Harcourt 1851). A ave marinha mais pequena que nidifica no arquipélago, sendo menor que um melro Turdus merula. É facilmente reconhecida por apresentar plumagem quase toda negra, à exceção de uma barra branca junto à cauda. Em Portugal, nidifica nas Berlengas, nos Açores e na Madeira. No arquipélago da Madeira, está presente em todas as ilhas e apresenta duas populações que nidificam em períodos distintos: a população de verão, que está presente entre abril e setembro, e a população de inverno, que se reproduz entre setembro e março. Aproveita pequenos buracos entre pedras, fendas de rochas e muros de pedra para construir os seus ninhos, que são de reduzida dimensão. Alimenta-se exclusivamente de pequenos organismos vertebrados e invertebrados, que captura à superfície do mar.
A sua identificação deveu-se a Sir Edward William Vernon Harcourt (1825-1891), que em agosto de 1849 casou com Susan Harriet Holroyd, filha do conde de Sheffield, George August Holroyd (1802-1876), passando a ser Lady Susan Harriet Vernon Harcourt (Londres, 1824-1894) e tendo-se deslocado à Madeira várias vezes com o marido. Foi para ilustrar o livro do mesmo, A Sketch of Madeira, information for the traveller or invalid visitor, Ed. Thomas McLean, 1850, Londres, John Murray, Albemarle Street, 1851, que igualmente editou Sketch of Madeira, com os desenhos feitos na Madeira em 1848 e 1849.
