Roman 'Dales-type' ware vessel
Description
English: A Roman base sherd from a flat-bottomed vessel or jar of shell-tempered coarse-ware. The base shows parallel marks suggesting the vessel was wheel thrown. Estimated diameter 100 -110 mm.

Fabric: Core is reduced dark grey with profuse inclusions and sparse voids. Surface, dark grey: hard.

Inclusions: crushed shell, >1 mm to 7 mm.

Forming: wheel thrown. No visible decoration, wheel marks on base

Form: Vessel or Jar

Fragment: Base sherd
