Description

The U.S. Navy submarine USS Tang (SS-306) at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (USA), in May 1944. The submarine's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Richard H. O'Kane (center), poses with the twenty-two aircrewmen that Tang rescued off Truk during the carrier air raids there on 29 April-1 May 1944. The photograph was taken upon Tang´s return to Pearl Harbor from her second war patrol, in May 1944. Those present are are (front row, left to right): Aviation Radioman 2nd Class Harry B. Gemmell; Aviation Radioman 2nd Class Joseph Hranek; Aviation Radioman 1st Class James L. Livingston; and Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Joseph D. Gendron;
