The people of the Uros islands of Lake Titicaca make their homes on large clumps of floating reeds. The eat reeds, they make their homes from reeds, and they build very seaworthy boats from bundles of reeds.
Thor Heyerdahl tried to prove that the reed boats of Lake Titicaca were derived from the papyrus boats of Egypt.
