English: Cross-country express at Reading in 1949.
Churchward 'Star' 4-6-0 No. 4049 'Princess Maud' has arrived at Reading (General) with the Birkenhead (via Birmingham Snow Hill and Oxford) to Ramsgate and Eastbourne express. The train will be taken on by a SR locomotive via Guildford to Redhill, where it will divide. No. 4049 had seen better days, having been built in 1914 and worked top GWR expresses for about 20 years, but was to be withdrawn in 7/53.
