Vans Aircraft in America produces the RV series of kit aircraft, the world's most popular amateur-built flying machine, with over 2,300 completed and flying as of October, 2005.

Of the various models, the RV-6 is the most popular, featuring side by side seating and easy flying characteristics. Stall speed is 50 mph and top speed is 200 mph, with aerobatic capability. Empty weight is usually 1000 - 1100 lbs depending on equipment levels, and max take-off weight varies between 1600 and 1800 lbs. The home-builder receives much support both from Vans Aircraft as well as fellow builders groups and Internet-based chat sites dedicated to the RV series.
