Summary

Description
English: Queen of the May, in June The individual flowers of the hawthorn, seen close up, look like tiny roses, especially in this pink version: it is indeed a member of the genus Rosaceae. May blossom is traditionally considered unlucky to bring into the house This may have something to do with the trimethylamine present in the flowers - this substance is one of the first products formed when body tissue starts to decay. In former times corpses were kept in the house prior to burial and people would have been familiar with this odour of death.
