English: Quasr al_Hallabat is a former Roman castellum (built 111-114 under Trajan or Hadrian and under the reign of Caracalla turned into a proper fortress under Legate Phirnius Julianus) turned Umayyad castle. Under Justinian it was renovated. A more ancient Nabatean site seems to have been here also. Around the start of the 8th century the Umayyads took over, before then the site was a Christian monastery for a short while, with a basilica, but after the invasion by the Persians the place had been unoccupied.
