Description
English: A possible post medieval to modern bronze commemorative medal or medallion from the Frigate Unicorn, Dundee, which was in service from AD 1824 to 1964. The medal is circular with a sub triangular attachment loop at the top. On one side in the centre there is the bust of a unicorn facing left with mane flowing back as if in motion. Surrounding this is two solid circular borders, containing a repeating rope pattern inside. The outer border has the inscription 'The Frigate Unicorn Dundee'. The other side is decorated with a compass. In the circular section of the compass is a three masted sailing ship facing left, surrounding this there is a border with the inscription 'Made by Wilhelm Farin[...] Projecting out from this section are the points of the compass, seven points and a fleur de lis at the north point. In between each point are long and short triangular shapes. In a circular border around this is the degrees of the compass.

The medal is a light yellow brown colour, and measures 42.7mm in length, 38.6mm in width, 2.5mm in thickness and weighs 19.57g.
