Description
English: A commemorative portrait of the artist John Ralston (1788/89-1833). Advertised in the Manchester Courier on 08 November 1834 as follows: "AGNEW and ZANETTI beg to inform the Friends of the late Mr. JOHN RALSTON, and the Amateurs of the Fine Arts, that they have this day published a PORTRAIT of him, from the original portrait by Mr. Freeman and Mr. Ralston. Engraved by W. O. Geller. Size, 11 1/2 inches by 9. Proofs £1 1s 0d. Prints 0 10s 6d." Other sources clarify that the landscape background was by Ralston, the portrait was by G. Freeman (whose name is also spelled "Frieman" and "Frierman" in some sources).
