DescriptionPort of Anchorage construction, first concrete pour, September 1959.jpg
English: The original construction of the Port of Anchorage was signficantly delayed by two events: first, the ship carrying the steel pilings for the wharf deck encountered rough seas and approximately two-thirds of the pilings were lost overboard; then, the carpenters' union went on strike, which also affected the construction of multiple high-rises (mostly hotels) planned at that time. In this photo, they are pouring the first concrete for the wharf deck, following initial construction with what resources were available at that moment.
