English: Indian pro-merger activists driving through an unspecified rural area of French India in March 1954 to gather support for merger with India. All four territories of French India -- Pondicherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahé -- experienced such activities, and in the last three territories the French authorities had either nearly or completely lost control to invading "liberation committees" by the summer. De facto merger will take place 1 November 1954.
