Description
English: Varves at Sandend Bay in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. These stripes are the remains of sediments that accumulated in a glacial lake during the last ice age. The content of the sediment changes seasonally, and is reflected in the different colours of the varves. (Hiking pole for scale).
