Summary

Description
English: Plaque to Professor Henry Scougal (d.1678) See Henry_Scougal

On the wall of Kings College, Old Aberdeen. 'Records of Old Aberdeen' states: On the south wall of the Chapel, on the outside, there is an inscription : 1 Above the inscription is a shield bearing, on a chevron, between a crescent in chief and a cinquefoil in base, a human eye. The motto is, Confido Sed Caveo. 2 A shield above has the bishop's arms, three bears' heads couped and muzzled with a passion cross at fess point. [I see no bears!]. 3 For an account of the heraldic representations on this wall and on other parts of the College buildings, see Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Vol. xxiii. p. 80. [Not to hand]

Is the present plaque I wonder, a replacement for the original? Or else does the above description refer to another plaque commemorating HS's father who was the Bishop of Aberdeen for 20 years?
