Summary

Description
English: Built in 1909-1911, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Benno Janssen to house the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, a private social club. The building features a stone exterior, engaged corinthian piers and columns, cornices with modillions and dentils, one-over-one and two-over-two double-hung windows, arched transoms at the first floor bays, decorative reliefs with festoons at the fifth floor facade, and a hipped red terra cotta tile roof. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and is a contributing structure in the Schenley Farms Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building is presently mostly vacant, as declining membership of the club led to financial difficulties in the 2010s, with various local stakeholders, most notably the adjacent University of Pittsburgh, presently considering the purchase of the building.
