Summary

Description
English: The left side relation groups the Northern pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus oregonensis) and Umpqua pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus umpquae) as the most recent species in the pikeminnow family, with the Sacramento pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus grandis) being a sister group to the former two while the Colorado pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus lucius) is the more ancestral pikeminnow species. The right side relation shows the opposite, with the Northern pikeminnow being placed as the ancestral pikeminnow species, followed by the Umpqua pikeminnow, and finally grouping together the Sacramento and Colorado pikeminnow species together as the most recent members of the family. Most studies that look at the pikeminnow phylogenetic relationship generally agree with the left depiction of the taxonomic tree, while only a handful agree with the right. (Houston, D.D., Ogden, T.H., Whiting, M.F. and Shiozawa, D.K. (2010)).
