Este doble retrato es una copia del original de Tiziano, en paradero desconocido, y fue realizada por Rubens durante su segunda estancia en Madrid, entre 1628 y 1629. Fue adquirido por Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó, XVII duque de Alba de Tormes, en Londres el 18 de noviembre de 1935 a Mr. Frank Sabin. Desde entonces se conserva en el Palacio de Liria de Madrid, residencia oficial de la casa homónima.
