Description
English: Located on the shores of the Flores Sea, the people of Lamalera, Lembata Island (formerly known as Lomblen Island), East Nusa Tenggara Province carry out whaling activities using traditional equipment. The equipment referred to is in the form of sails, ropes (made from cotton thread, gebang leaves, and waru tree bark fibers), kafe or tempuling, that is harpoon, wooden peledang (boat), canoes, poles where harpoons are used for spearing, tools for scooping water, water barrels, as well as faye (a tool for rowing).
Bahasa Indonesia: Berada di tepi pantai Laut Flores, masyarakat di Lamalera, Pulau Lembata (dahulu disebut Pulau Lomblen), Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur melakukan aktivitas penangkapan ikan paus dengan menggunakan peralatan serba tradisional. Peralatan dimaksud berupa layar, tali (yang dibuat dari benang kapas, daun gebang, dan serat kulit pohon waru), kafe yaitu tempuling atau harpoon, peledang (perahu) dari kayu, sampan, galah tempat menancapkan harpun untuk menombak, alat untuk menggayung air, gentong air, maupun faye (alat untuk mendayung).
