English: "View of St. Charles Avenue Streetcar", 1898 painting by Paul Edouard Poincy. Shows St. Charles Avenue, Uptown New Orleans, with female bicyclist, open-vestibule Ford, Bacon, and Davis Streetcar in the distance.
Oil on canvas, 5 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches
Notes: HNOC page identifies building in background as Holy Name of Jesus Church, but the current church didn't exist at the time and the smaller wooden church of the 1890s looked much different. I think a more likely candidate is Leland Hall of Leland University, a few blocks further up St. Charles. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk)
