Notes These are preparatory studies for the altarpiece of The Vision of Saint Jerome (London, The National Gallery, NG33), painted in Rome in 1526-1527, after the artist had arrived from Parma, on commission from Maria Bufalini for the high altar of the family chapel in the church of San Salvatore in Lauro, Rome.
