Description
English: The Panama Canal can be seen from space, as this picture taken from the International Space Station demonstrates. The picture, taken in September, 2004 as part of Expedition 9, shows the south-eastern — Pacific — end of the canal. The approach from the Pacific is on the right (the south); this leads to the Miraflores Locks, and then to Miraflores Lake. On the left (north) end of the lake, in the centre of the picture, is the Pedro Miguel lock, which then leads to the Gaillard Cut, which runs left (north) under the Centennial Bridge towards the Río Chagres and Lake Gatún.
