PGA_Kocaeli.jpg (718 × 260 pixels, file size: 45 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

This graph image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “PGA Kocaeli.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description

English: The recording recorded during the 1999 Kocaeli earthquake is shown. The horizontal axis is the second, and the vertical axis is the gravitational acceleration. As marked in the figure, the maximum ground acceleration is 0.25 g (~ 2 5 m/s 2).

With a damping ratio of 5, the displacement values of 3 different systems with different periods under the mentioned ground motion are shown depending on time.

The reason for making calculations for different periods is that the period is a parameter dependent on the mass and stiffness of the structure. Considering single-degree-of-freedom systems with different periods allows to calculate for single-degree-of-freedom systems of different stiffnesses and masses. According to the Figure, the PGA of the given soil profile is higher than the Ambarlı record PGA.
