English: The opsin genes on the X chromosome are shown. When there is unequal homologous recombination between exons of two dissimilar genes, chimeric genes are formed that share some dimorphic points of each gene (which are otherwise 96% similar). These chimeric genes have spectral sensitivity somewhere in between the two genes and are the basis of types of colorblindness (protanomaly and deuteranomaly).
