DescriptionNorth American Monsoon 20080808 Late (wide).jpg
English: Thunderstorms during the North American Monsoon as seen from El Cajon, California. This is a common sight from southern California during the monsoon season. The monsoon is held back by the Penensular Range leaving a spectacular view of the thunderstorms only a half-hour's drive from the hot and sunny coastal strip. It is rare for the storms to push over the mountains. Only about once a season do the storms bring relief from the heat to the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.
