English: Nisan (signature) of Guru Har Rai, at the beginning of a Guru Granth Sahib manuscript dated 1716 Bikrami Samvat (1659 C.E.). Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha in 'Mahan Kosh' writes the nisans of the Sikh gurus are written in a style known as 'Shikasta' (calligraphically) which employs less use of 'Maatra' (sound symbols) and is a quick form of writing.
