English: Newgate, Market Place, Jedburgh Built in 1756 with the steeple added in 1761, this replaced the Tolbooth/Town House on this site, and is a prominent landmark in the town. Newgate, annexed to the County Buildings, was superseded by Jedburgh Castle Jail in 1823. Viewed from Abbey Place in the adjoining square.
