Admiral James L. Holloway, III, USN, Chief of Naval Operations (at right)

Meets with the Navy's principal Commanders in Chief, in his Pentagon office in late July 1974, a month after he became CNO. A wide range of issues were discussed during two days of consultations, including fleet operations and training, personnel, and ship and weapon systems development programs. "Knowing the vast experience and responsibility these officers represent," Admiral Holloway remarked, "I considered it essential that I have their views as I analyze the status of the Navy today and begin charting our course for the future." The others present are (from left to right): Admiral Harold E. Shear, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe; Admiral Maurice F. Weisner, CinC, Pacific Fleet; Admiral Ralph W. Cousins, CinC, Atlantic Fleet; and Admiral Worth H. Bagley, Vice Chief of Naval Operations. Photograph released for publication on 31 July 1974.

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, from the collections of the Naval Historical Center.
