Summary

Description

This Mikado is typical of the locomotives that served on Korean rail network during the war, and is part of the termination point monument, showing a desire to continue chugging north. The coal carriage toward the back shows the old Korean National Railroad (now known as Korail) logo.

While the rail link to North Korea is physically restored and served by freight trains, only one passenger train made the trip north on a test run basis, in 2007, and with the rising tensions from 2008 on, the link fell into disuse again, with even freight trains being halted.

I would so love for this link to open to regularly scheduled passenger traffic, as it would allow a train journey from Seoul not only to North Korea, but into China, and Europe via the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
