File information
Description

An open Leclanche (carbon zinc) C-cell. The outer steel casing is removed. The metal cap at the top is removed, as well as the separator between the top cap and the zinc casing. The carbon rod in the center is the positive electrode. The black powder inside is a mixture of carbon and manganese dioxide. There is a brown paper between the black powder and the outer zinc casing, that contains zinc chloride and ammonium chloride. The zinc casing outside gets dissolves, releasing electrons. The electrons flow through the device and flow into the carbon rod, where the black powder absorbs the electrons.
