Peinture murale de "la prise de la Terre à témoin par le Bouddha" dans la salle de prière du Wat Thomit Au moment où le Bouddha s'engageait dans sa méditation finale avant d'atteindre le Nirvana, le Démon Mara (qui incarne les émotions perturbatrices) se présenta au Bouddha avec son armée et lui demanda de quel droit celui-ci se tenait assis à cet endroit. Le Bouddha toucha alors le sol de sa main droite pour "prendre la terre à témoin", et la tradition dit que la Déesse Terre se manifesta et fit sortir de sa tresse l'eau qui symbolisait les mérites accumulés par le Bouddha dans ses vies passées, cette eau coula de la tresse de la déesse en telle abondance que cela noya l'armée de Mara et que le Bouddha put poursuivre sa méditation en paix. " Le wat Thomit est une Pagode khmère, située dans la commune de Vinh Trung, district de Tinh Bien, province d'An Giang, Vietnam. Les Cambodgiens pratiquent le Bouddhisme theravāda (dit Petit Véhicule). |
