MOMPER, Joos de
(b. 1564, Antwerpen, d. 1634/35, Antwerpen)
Large Mountain Landscape
c. 1620
Oil on canvas, 226 x 327 cm
Liechtenstein Museum, Vienna
Joos de Momper and his large and productive workshop in Antwerp specialized exclusively in landscapes. His landscapes featured mostly Alpine ranges and some Scandinavian ones, too. The motifs in his landscapes suggest that he probably visited Italy. The staffage figures in this painting are probably the work of Hans Jordaens III.
