A Lapa do Santo é um sítio arqueológico localizado na região de Lagoa Santa em Minas Gerais. Apresenta um rico registro da cultura material dos grupos que habitaram o Brasil central durante Holoceno Inicial, Médio e Final. Dezenas de sepultamentos humanos foram encontrados na Lapa do Santo.
Além dos ossos que compunham sepultamentos humanos também foram encontrados, aindas que em baixa frequencia, ossos isolados. Em sua maioria esses ossos apresentavam sinais de manipulação, corte e/ou queima. Nesta imagem observa-se a extremidade distal de um fêmur esquerdo. a) Da esquerda para a direita, vista anterior, lateral, posterior e medial; b) detalhe da superfície anterior resultante após remoção da diáfise e incisões, c) detalhe da superfície posterior após a remoção da diáfise e incisões, d) incisão na parte posterior, próximo à superfície articular, e) marcas presentes na superfície articular do côndilo medial, possivelmente geradas pela ação de algum roedor. Note que a parte queimada limita-se a porção proximal do fêmur (a parte de cima em 'a'). Esse tipo de marca de queima é compatível com a presença de tecidos moles no momento da exposição ao fogo, resultando do gradual encolhimento da carne e consequente exposição do osso. As marcas de mordidas de pequenos animais são indicativas de que no momento do descarte ainda havia tecidos presos ao osso e que ele não foi enterrado. Para comparação é importante mencionar que nenhum osso humana da Lapa do Santo encontrado em contexto de covas apresenta esse tipo de marca de mordida por pequenos animais.
