Kishor Bahadur Singha

Kishor Bahadur Singha (born May 25 1948) is badminton player who represented Nepal in nation and International Games. He dominated the Nepal Badminton circuit in Nepal for almost a decade. He won 10 nation championships, notable being crowned triple crown champion for six years straight from (1968-1973) winning all the singles, doubles and mixed doubles National finals. In 1970 he reached the round of 16 in world badminton Championship. He was the former vice president of Nepal Olympic committee, president of Nepal Gymnastic Association and Member Secretory of National sports Council.

Background and early Life

Kishor Bahadur Singha was born on may 25 1948 in Kathmandu, Nepal. His father was Late Rtd Colonel Indra Bahadur Singha and Mother Poth Rajyashwori Singha with four brothers and one Sister. From childhood he was blessed with the freedom as most of the children's, wore not allowed to get involved in sports that time in Nepal as Sports was not professionalized during that period of time. Sports was natural in the family as his father had also played for his university cricket team in India before joining the army. His Grand father Bajhangi Raja Bikram Bahadur Singha was also said to be sports lover. He is married to Jyoti rajyalaxmi shah.

Career

Kishor started his Badminton career at the age of 18 as there not much tournaments to take part in. He started playing Badminton in his backyard where he and his brothers started to get feel of the shuttle. During his teenage he even competed in regional level Table Tennis tournaments and has reached the quarter Finals of the reginal table tennis tournaments as well. His Badminton skills was raised to the next level when he got the chance to train with, then Japanese head coach of Nepal Mr Tsugio Yamamoto. Kishor won his first national champions in 1968 aged 20 beating then champion Pursotam K.C. in three sets 13-15, 19-17, 15-5. That marked his entry and start of his solo dominance of Badminton in Nepal he would win every tournaments that he played in. He won triple crown titles for six straight years.( Singles, doubles and mixed doubles). the even reached the round of 16 of world championship then losing out to then winner Prakash Padukone. The feat he achieved winning the triple crown titles from (1968-1973) has not been broken till date.

Other Services

Kishor Bahadur Singha has served as the President of Nepal gymnastic Association, he even was the Vice president Of Nepal Olympics Committee under rukma Shumsher Rana and Was the member secretory of National Sports Council from (2002-2006). He was the head coach of Nepal Badminton team during that time players like Former National champions Naresh Bahadur Singha, Ramji Shrestha, kiran Thapa, Samir Bahadur Singha, Sudip Yonjan, Balram thapa and Pasupati paneru had learned a lot from him and the later two being his prodigy. He is regarded as the leaving legend and all time greatest of Nepal Badminton.
