Summary

Description

West German cold-war era Main Battle Tank Originally intended to replace the M47 and M48 Patton tanks then in West German service, the Leopard 1 ended up with a production run of 6,565 (including variants) and was widely exported both within Europe and worldwide. This example was a gift from the German Army and reportedly has a Series III turret on a Series II chassis. It is maintained in running condition and is on display in the ‘Contemporary World’ hall.
