KAL_007_Post-Takeoff_Flight_Path.png (725 × 434 pixels, file size: 28 KB, MIME type: image/png)

Description
English: Diagram showing the divergence of KAL 007 from its assigned flight path after take-off. Once it had diverged more than 7.5 miles from the track programmed into its inertial navigation system (INS), the autopilot could not activate INS navigation mode when it was selected by the crew; instead the aircraft continued to navigate on a constant magnetic heading, without the crew realizing this. NOTE: This diagram is incorrect because Cairn Mount is 285km from Anchorage, and therefore could not have been reached 3mins after take-off.
