English: Julia (also known as Judy) Bonds, accepting the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2003. Bonds is from Marfolk Hollow, West Virginia, and became an indefatigable activist to raise awareness about the destructive elements of mountaintop removal coalmining and to establish strict regulations to protect the local people and environment of Appalachia.
