Location
Faridpur Judge Court is located at Rajendra College Rd, Faridpur Sadar, Faridpur.[1] It is considered a landmark of the Faridpur Sadar.
Architectural style
The Faridpur Judge Court building is a representation of colonial architecture by the British, built during 1885-1886,[2] but was established during 1889, to provide justice for local people. According to the heritage typology, it is a judiciary building. There is strong evidence of classical architecture.
As it was built during the Colonial period, the architectural style is evident, with vaulted arches on the outer wall with elongated verandas. The building is an important structure holding aesthetic significance, also holding significant value for providing justice to the local people of Faridpur.
It has a prominent central shaded porch on the front, under a circular pediment, which is supported on classical Doric style columns. It occupies a vast quadrangular enclosure with a series of apartments of various dimensions, aligned on four symmetrically laid out wings. Cupolas are found crowning the roof of the courthouse, used as ornamentation.
The court building has a “foot over the bridge” that connects to another building on the other side of the road. That building is called “Advocate’s Library”, where the advocates used to talk with their clients. Behind the Judge Court building, new construction of the building is occurring, which will be used as the new Judge Court of Faridpur.
