Supporting the opening stages in the battle for Rome with coastal bombardments and escorts for the landing craft of all types that swept into the beaches at Anzio in the wake of the minesweepers. Rear Admiral Troubridge (right), Senior Officer of the British Naval Forces taking part in the operation, conferring with (centre) Rear Admiral J M Mansfield, DSC, on the bridge of the latter's flagship, HMS ORION. On the left is Captain J P Gornall, Commanding Officer of the ship.
