Description
English: The accountant John Johnston (1781-1851) was born at Barnboard Mill, Galloway, Scotland, and came to New York in 1804. In 1817, he married Margaret Taylor Howard and their son, John Taylor Johnston, later became one of the founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
