Description Australian War Memorial image 013968. A Japanese soldier in the water off Cape Endaiadere, New Guinea moments before committing suicide with a grenade he is holding to his head. The Australian soldier on the beach had called on him to surrender, including demonstrating with his hands (see: http://cas.awm.gov.au/item/013967)
