Notes The reserved design around the middle of the base is very similar to that on the foot of a hemispherical basin also in the British Museum (Inv. number G. 1983.8). The pattern above and below are very similar to that on the foot of a basin in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (Inv. number C.5-1970)
This is one of a pair of candlesticks. The other candlestick has an Inventory number of 1878,1230.521. Atasoy & Raby have the Inventory numbers switched. Arthur Lane (1957 p261) considered that the two candlesticks were forgeries. Raby (p105) strongly disagreed and noted that "Lane unaccountably dismissed as a 'palpable forgery'".
